Obituary for Marie L. Hancock

MARIE L. HANCOCK Marie (Labrie) Hancock, 76, of Merrimack and formerly of Nashua, passed Wednesday evening, January 30, 2013 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, after a period of declining health. A Nashua native, Mrs. Hancock was born on May 11, 1936 daughter to late Eddy F. and Laurianne (Fortin) Labrie. Marie graduated Class of 1954 from the former St. Louis High School. She attended St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1957. Marie was an Operating Room Nurse for most of her 39 year career at Memorial Hospital now known as Southern New Hampshire Medical Center. She spent her last eight years working in Pediatrics. While in high school, Marie played basketball and spent her summers working as a lifeguard at Hampton Beach. She enjoyed swimming, the beach, knitting, crafts, puzzles and the New England Patriots. Marie was married to the late Herbert J. Hancock, who died February 22, 1990. They were married on July 27, 1958 and made their home in Nashua before moving to Merrimack in the mid 1960s. She was predeceased by three brothers, infant Roger Labrie, George J. Labrie and Paul Burns; two grandchildren, Joshua and Sabrina Hancock; and her brother-in-law, William S. McIlveen. Surviving members of her family include five children and their spouses; Cheri and Richard Forrest of Mont Vernon, Cindy and Brian McKenna of Merrimack, Herbert E. and Diane Hancock of Merrimack, Laurianne and Charles Macdonald of Coral Springs, FL and John J. and Candice Hancock of Merrimack, 14 grandchildren; Theresa Adams, Jessica Uhrich, Brian P. McKenna, Richard Forrest, Brittany Edmonds, Marissa Forrest, Geret Hancock, Victoria Forrest, Charles J. Macdonald IV, John Hancock, Daniel Hancock, Savanah Macdonald, MacKenzie Hancock and Mason Hancock, two great-grandchildren; Amyah Uhrich-Wilkins and Gabriella Edmonds, as well as her sister, Gloria McIlveen of Hudson and sister-in-law, Armande Labrie of Bedford. Her dearest friends, Gail Strand and Louise Tedeschi and many nieces, nephews and cousins mourn with the family. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours Monday, February 4th, 6 – 8 pm at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua. A Mass of Christian will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. at St. John Neumann Church, Milford Road off Route 101A in Merrimack. Interment follows in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Nashua. RICHARD J. LAROSE Richard Joseph LaRose, 73, of Nashua, a well known native of this city, died Friday morning, February 1, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital. A son of the late Roland and Germaine (Therrien) LaRose, “Dick” was born here on September 30, 1939. He was a graduate of Nashua High School Class of 1958 and attended Bentley College. Dick was a co-owner of the former Modern Restaurant in Nashua, where he worked with members of his family for 35 years. He later worked for New Hampshire Industrial Suppliers in Nashua for six years. Active in Nashua’s government, Mr. LaRose served as Alderman of Ward Two from 1986 ��" 1991 and 2004 ��" 2011; was Ward Two representative to the New Hampshire State House from 1995 -2001 and served on the Nashua Truck Traffic Committee from 1973 ��" 1979. He also served three terms on the Joint Special School Building Committee. Dick was a member of the Nashua Planning Board from 1992-1999 and was recently appointed as the Mayor’s representative to the Planning Board. Mr. LaRose served as Vice President and President of the Heart of Nashua Foundation from 1978-1983; served on the Board of Trustees of the Hunt Memorial Building and the Nashua Children’s Home; and served on the Board of Directors of the Nashua Chamber of Commerce. Dick was a longtime communicant of St. Christopher Church where he served for many years as a Eucharistic Minister and Acolyte. He held membership in Nashua Lodge 720, Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks for 52 years. On May 15, 1993, Mr. LaRose underwent a successful heart transplant, and this gift of life enabled him to spend nearly twenty more years surrounded by his loving family and to serve his community in several different capacities. Members of his family include his wife of 45 years, Madeleine P. (Brault) LaRose, whom he married on April 15, 1967; his four children, Elizabeth “Liz” LaRose and her husband Michael C. Dionne of Sharon, NH, Philip C. LaRose of Seattle, WA, Andrea A. LaRose and her wife Jennifer Michalsky of Erlangen, Germany, and Jeremiah V. LaRose of Dover, NH; three brothers, Norman LaRose and his wife Doris of Bonita Springs, FL, David LaRose of Las Vegas, NV and John LaRose and his wife Nancy of Hudson; a sister, Claire deMontigny of New Smyrna Beach, FL; a sister-in-law, Claire Dionne of Nashua; a brother-in-law, Donald Brault of North Highlands, CA; an aunt, Florence Phaneuf and her husband Leo of Nashua; an uncle, Arthur LaRose of Nashua; also many nieces, nephews and cousins. RITA C. FORRENCE Rita C. (Boucher) Forrence, 95, a resident of Windham for the past 32 years and formerly of Nashua, died peacefully at her home, early Monday morning, February 4, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Forrence was born in Chisholm, Maine on November 6, 1917, a daughter of the late Alphonse and Laura (Levesque) Boucher. She was the devoted wife of Charles E. Forrence Sr., whom she married on June 14, 1941. Rita was a co-owner of Gate City Fence Company of Nashua, where she worked six days of the week for over 61 years with her husband Charlie to help build the company. She also was a waitress at the former Modern Restaurant in Nashua for 30 years. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Louis de Gonzague Church, where she held weekly Whist parties for the parishioners for over 15 years. Rita was a volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital and at local blood banks. Members of her family include her husband of 71 years, Charles E. Forrence, Sr; and her loving family including two sons, Charles E. Forrence Jr. and Kenneth Forrence Sr. and his wife Diana; her daughter, Drusilla Peters and her husband Harry Peters Jr.; son-in-law, Leo Francoeur all Hudson, NH; three sisters, Lucille Boyer of Florida, Marcelle Largy of Nashua and Berta Detloff of California; also 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Rita was predeceased by a daughter, Suzanne R. Francoeur, who died in May 2004. ELAINE McDONOUGH LABBE Elaine McDonough Labbe, 58, of Nashua, NH, wife of Denis P. Labbe, passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by her family and friends, Saturday evening, February 2, 2013, after a long and courageous two year battle with Pancreatic cancer. A resident of Nashua for the past 28 years, Mrs. Labbe was born in Marlborough, Massachusetts on June 3, 1954, a daughter of the late Ernest and Mary (Sullivan) McDonough. Elaine was a graduate of Assumption College and returned to school later in life to earn her Master’s degree in education from Rivier College. Mrs. Labbe was employed by the Nashua School District for 13 years, during which time she touched many students’ lives. Members of her family include her husband Denis, with whom she shared 28 years together; her children Michelle and Brendan of Nashua, NH; her sister, Marcia Josephson and her husband Arthur of Marlborough, MA; her brother-in-law, Yvan Labbe and his wife Blandine of Hooksett, NH; and many beloved nieces and nephews. PAUL E. PHELAN Paul Eugene Phelan, 79, of Hollis, NH, died Friday morning, February 1, 2013 after a period of declining health. Born in Wareham, Massachusetts on March 26, 1933, he was a son of the late Joseph Phelan and Lillian V. (Lewis) Phelan Loring. Paul was educated in Hudson, NH and graduated from Nashua High School Class of 1951. Mr. Phelan served with the US Army Signal Corps during the Korean Conflict as a Radar Specialist. Mr. Phelan taught electrical trade at Nashua High School, leaving in 1975 to establish Trade Education, Inc. As a lifelong educator and Master Electrician, Paul worked in all aspects of the Electrical Field. His expertise was in the National Electrical Code and its interpretation. Paul is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret B. (Stallybrass) Schultz Phelan; his step-children, Barbara (Schultz) Fraulini and Michael Schultz and his wife Julie all of Nashua; grandchildren, Michael Fraulini and his wife Amy of Ohio, Paula (Fraulini) Noel and her husband Richard of Nashua, Christopher Schultz and his wife Sue of Hudson and Aaron Schultz of Nashua; a sister, Patricia A. Kinville of Nashua; a brother David L. Phelan of Hollis. In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by a brother Joseph F. Phelan. RALPH R. LECLAIRE Ralph R. “Sonny” LeClaire, 82, of Nashua, died Monday evening, February 4, 2013 at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center after a very brief illness. Born in Goffstown on September 11, 1930, he was a son of the late Lucille Dyment and his step father Irvin Dyment. Sonny grew up in Hudson and was raised his by aunt and uncle, Annette and Walter Fuller. Educated in local schools, Mr. LeClaire was a graduate of Nashua High School, Class of 1950 and served a tour of duty with the Navy from 1950 to 1954. Ralph had been employed with Nashua Corporation as a Machine Operator and Foreman from 1956 until he retired in 1992. He served as Vice President of I.B.P.U. Local 270. Mr. LeClaire was a communicant of St. Kathryn Church in Hudson. Members of his family include his wife of 58 years, Natalie L. (Denis) LeClaire, whom he married on November 13, 1954; his three children, Paul LeClaire and his wife Beth, Denise Kincaid and her husband Thomas, and Raymond LeClaire and his wife, Ann; nine grandchildren, Brad, Parker and Jacqueline LeClaire, Michael, Brian, Alicia and Tyler Kincaid, and Thomas and Carly LeClaire; a sister, Patricia Roethel of Georgia; also nieces, nephews and cousins. Ralph was predeceased by his brothers, Leonard and Ernest Fuller; and sister, Barbara DesLaurier. SERVICES: There are no calling hours. DRINETTE D. ACKERMAN Drinette D. Ackerman, 88, of Hudson, widow of T. Robert Ackerman, died Monday morning, February 4, 2013 at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua, after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Hudson, Mrs. Ackerman was born in Nashua on August 1, 1924, a daughter of the late Alphonse and Elise (Vaillancourt) Dionne. Educated in local schools, she was a graduate of Nashua High School and the former Nashua Business College. Mrs. Ackerman had been employed with the former Sanders Associates, Inc. in its computer division for a number of years. Drinette was a communicant of St. John The Evangelist Church in Hudson and held memberships in the Hudson and Nashua Senior Centers. In addition to her parents, Drinette was predeceased by her husband Bob who died in 1992; her daughter, Pamela L. Ackerman; and her sisters, Edna Boisclair and Lilyan C. Decoteau. Members of her family include a niece, Gloria (Boisclair) Hill of Homosassa, FL; two nephews, Richard Boisclair of Las Vegas, NV and Armand Decoteau of Nashua; also several grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. Margery M. (Doll) AmadonMargery M. (Doll) Amadon, 92, a longtime Hollis resident, and most recently of Nashua died at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack on February 7, 2013. She was born in Franklin, NH on October 3, 1920, a daughter of the late Albert H. and Nellie F. (Banfill) Doll. Mrs. Amadon was the widow of Floyd S. Amadon. She was educated in Franklin. She is remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing. Throughout her career she had worked for several local companies including Sprague and Carlton Furniture, the former Alexander’s Super Market and the former Dugas Superette In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by a son Robert Amadon and brother-in-law Milton West. Survivors include two sons, Floyd T. and Sandra Amadon of So. Gardiner, MA, and Raymond L. Amadon of Nashua; her three daughters and two sons-in-law, Margery A. Kaefer of Hudson, Beverly F. and Carl Allen of Nashua, and Beth E. and Andrew Tomolonis of Nashua; her daughter-in-law, Karen Amadon of Rehoboth, MA; several grandchildren and several great grandchildren; her sister Arlene West of Portland, ME.

VIRGINIA F. (HAYES) McCARTHY Virginia F. (Hayes) McCarthy, a longtime Hudson resident, widow of Robert J. McCarthy, died Friday afternoon, February 8, 2013 at Fairview Nursing Home, after a period of declining health. A daughter of the late Frank P. and Doris B. (Curtis) Hayes, she was born in Farmington, NH on January 30, 1922. Virginia grew up in Nashua and was a graduate of Nashua High School Class of 1940 and attended the former Nashua Business College. Virginia and her husband Bob were married on December 17, 1941 and made their home in Nashua before moving to Hudson in 1950. The couple shared 52 years together until his death on April 4, 1994. Mrs. McCarthy enjoyed cooking and gardening but her greatest joy was always being with her family and helping anyone in need. Virginia served on the reunion committee of her class from Nashua High School for several years. She will always be remembered for her compassion for animals and her kindness to everyone. Virginia had a great sense of humor and a wonderful smile. Her incredible outlook on life impressed everyone who knew her. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Joyce V. Curren who died in 2000. Members of her family include a son, Robert C. McCarthy of Merrimack and his wife Jeannette of Concord; a daughter and son-in-law, Gail D. and Michael Glenn of Hudson; seven grandchildren, Daniel Curren and his wife Karen, Jeffrey Glenn and his wife Nicole, Michael McCarthy and his wife Tara, Timothy Curren and his wife Melanie, Robin Farnell and her husband Christopher, Ryan McCarthy and his wife Jillian, and Patrick McCarthy and his wife Evelyn; thirteen great-grandchildren, Riley, Grant, Nolan, Ayden and Quinn Curren, Lily and Madeline Glenn, Andrew, Matthew, Meghan, Brody, Jameson and Harper McCarthy; and two more due this year; a sister, Una B. Progris and a brother, Frank P. Hayes Jr. both of Hudson; a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Walter and Dorothy McCarthy and Rita McCarthy all of Manchester; also several nieces and nephews. Virginia’s family would like to acknowledge the wonderful staffs at Laurel Place and Fairview Nursing Home in Hudson for their compassion, care and love given to our mother. You all were a blessing. Kathleen H. (Burke) VanderSluysKathleen H. (Burke) VanderSluys, 78, died on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at her home in Nashua. She was born in Arlington, MA on January 6, 1935, a daughter of Richard X. and Helen (Cook) Burke. She was the loving wife of the late Bertus D. VanderSluys who died on May 16, 2006. They were married on February 13, 1955. Mrs. VanderSluys was a 1953 graduate of Somerville High School in Somerville, MA. She was a bit of a bookworm and had many hobbies including various crafts, crossword puzzles, playing Bingo, Scrabble, and card games of all kinds. Mrs. VanderSluys volunteered for many years at New Searles Elementary School in Nashua during the time her grandchildren attended. She was also a long-time member of the Lakeshore Park Association in Gilford, NH. Along with her husband of more than 50 years, Bertus, she was predeceased by two brothers, David Burke and Richard Burke; and her sister, Elinor Lewis. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara A. Griffey and husband Guy of Nashua; son, Stephen P. VanderSluys of Gilford; four grandchildren, Anthony J. Griffey and Michael D. Griffey, both of Nashua, and Taylor A. VanderSluys and Haley K. VanderSluys, both of Lowell, MA; two sisters-in-law, Helen Burke of Winchester, MA, and Edith Cipolla and husband Paul of Boiling Springs, SC; daughter-in-law, Sandra R. VanderSluys of Lowell, MA; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Jeffrey DoironJeffrey Doiron, 37, died unexpectedly at his home on February 9, 2013. Mr. Doiron was born in Worcester, Mass on May 20, 1975, a son of Paulette (Gervais) Doiron of Hudson and Leonard Doiron and his wife Linda, both of Austin, Texas. He was an avid fan of the Boston Celtics, as well as the Patriots. He enjoyed music and spending time with his niece Reagan. He enjoyed traveling to both Hawaii and Key West, Florida. He had a passion for cooking and used his talents as a cook for numerous restaurants in the Nashua and Keene areas. Mr. Doiron was a graduate of Nashua High School, and following his graduation he attended Keene State College. In addition to his parents and step-mother, he is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Michelle and Greg Douglas of Nashua; his beloved niece, Reagan Douglas of Nashua; his maternal grandmother, Gladys Gervais of Worcester, MA; numerous aunts and uncles including Janie and Gerry Gervais of Worcester, MA; several cousins and his devoted dog, Duke.

Julie E. (Thibodeau) WilliamsonJulie E. (Thibodeau) Williamson, 70, died on Monday, February 11, 2013 at Southern NH Medical Center in Nashua. She was born on September 18, 1942 in Nashua. She was the daughter of Benjamin J. and Clara (Prince) Thibodeau. Julie was the loving wife of Richard Williamson, whom she married on August 22, 1959. Family was always most important to Julie. She held regular Sunday dinners and welcomed many friends of the family who attended throughout the years as well. In her spare time she enjoyed gambling, especially slots and scratch tickets. Along with her husband of over 53 years, Richard, she is survived by five children and their spouses, Robin Potter and husband Frank of Hudson, Kim Emerson of Hudson, Scott Williamson and wife Michele of Hudson, Stephen Williamson and companion Kim Hurley of Nashua, and Keith Williamson and wife Cindy of Hudson; fourteen grandchildren, Frankie, Heather, Isaiah, Savannah, Julindy, Allen, Brianna, Amanda, Juli, Savannah, Katherine, Julio, Juan, and Vicky; two great-grandchildren, Haeley and Landyn; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul Thibodeau and wife Bev of Nashua; three sisters-in-law and their spouses, Betty Caron and husband Roland, Dot Radcliffe and husband Jerry, and Pat Willette; a brother-in-law, Danny Rotkiewicz; as well as many nieces and nephews.

SOPHIA M. HOAG Sophia M. Hoag, 90, of Nashua, widow of George E. Hoag Jr., died Sunday evening, February 10, 2013 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, after a period of declining health. A lifelong resident of this city, Sophia was born in Nashua on August 20, 1922, a daughter of the late Michael and Maria (Rauekwez) Drabinovwez. Educated in local schools, Mrs. Hoag was a graduate of Nashua High School Class of 1940. She had been employed with Sprague Electric Company in Nashua for over 35 years. Sophia enjoyed traveling with her husband, going shopping and especially loved swimming and spending time at the beach. Mrs. Hoag was predeceased by her husband George, who died June 22, 1982; a son, Richard E. Hoag Sr.; her brothers, John, Joseph, Charles and Stanley Drabinowicz; and her sister, Helen Livingston. Members of her family include a son, Gerald M. Hoag of Nashua; a daughter-in-law, Susan T. Hoag of Northwood, NH; two grandchildren, Richard Hoag Jr. and Tracy Hoag and his wife Sarah J. Therrien; four great-grandchildren, Kayla, Coriann, Casey and Keegan Hoag; also many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Patrick Church, 29 Spring Street, Nashua, Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. Family and friends are invited to attend and will gather at the church.
